Week 1: Technology in Our Classrooms (Respond by June 22nd)

June 6th, 2007 by sbrunvan in EDT 502 Summer 2007 · Weekly Blog Discussions · 10 Comments

Hello 502 students and welcome to our course blog. This is where we will be sharing our thoughts, ideas and the many resources we uncover during this class. I hope this blog also gives you an opportunity to see one way blogs can be used in an educational setting. For this blog response I would like you to do a couple different things.  First of all, take some time and tell us about yourself. What is your current position and how do you currently use technology in your teaching. Don’t feel badly if you haven’t made much use of technology in the past. I’m not here to judge people. I’m also interested in learning about the technology resources you have available in your school. What kind of computer lab or labs do you have? Are the labs available regularly? Do you have digital projectors, smartboards, video cameras, digital cameras, student response systems or any other equipment available for use? What kind of software do you have available for students and teachers? What about the availability of the Internet? Is it locked down to the point of being useless or are you able to take students to the sites you need them to visit? I look forward to learning more about you all and your respective teaching environments.

Secondly, I would like you to watch the video I have included below and think about what it has to say about the impact of technology on today’s learners and our responsibilities as teachers to meet their needs in a digital world.  As you watch the video I would like you to think about how technology has changed your approach to teaching, work, life, communication, research, shopping and any other various areas of your daily routine.  What responsibilities do you think we have to adapt our instruction and our classroom structure to educate children in, and for, a digital world?
